Israel – Belarus: Twenty-Five Years of Diplomatic Relationship

June 29th, 2017 – An event to celebrate 25 years of Belarus independence and diplomatic relationships between Israel and Belarus was held at the Enav Cultural Center in Tel Aviv. Belorussian Ambassador, Mr. Vladimir Skvortsov, and Consul, Mr. Igor Verigo, together with many embassy staff, gave a warm welcome to the Minister for Aliyah Sofia Landver, representatives of various governmental agencies, foreign diplomats, religious leaders, representatives of social and Holocaust survivors’ organizations, businessmen and many others who came to share in the joy of the occasion.

The President of the Association of Immigrants from Belarus, Michael Alshansky, and the President of Helping Hand Coalition for Israel (עמותת יד לעזרה ישראל) Andre Gasiorowsky were also present. The Association represents 130,000 Belorussian immigrants in Israel, many of whom are Holocaust survivors, and has 32 branches throughout the Land. It plays a large part in maintaining friendly relationships between our two countries in economic, cultural and tourist spheres. This was emphasized in both Belorussian and Israeli officials’ speeches.

After solemn hymns of both Belarus and Israel were played, the guests were treated to cultural displays of song and dance and a photo gallery depicting the history of relationship between Belarus and Israel.

In his thank-you letter to the President of Helping Hand Coalition for Israel, the Ambassador of Belarus thanked Andre Gasiorowski for the Coalition’s support and cooperation in organizing the day and expressed special thanks to Yehuda Davidov, “who made much effort to see that the event would be memorable to everyone”.
