Happy Hanukkah!

December 13th, 2017 – It’s the first day of Hanukkah, and our volunteers set a beautiful table with Hanukkah decorations, baked cookies and delicious lunch for a group of 15 Holocaust survivors that came on a day trip from Jerusalem to Caesarea Villa.

After the meal and singing of traditional Hanukkah songs, we had a great time playing together the famous Hanukkah dreidel spin game (a four-sided top which can be made to spin on its pointy base). The dreidel has a Hebrew letter on each one of its sides. The four letters are each the first in words “Nes Gadol Haya Po”, which means “Great miracle happened here”. This is the dreidel for Israel. For those made abroad, the fourth letter is different, making the sentence to read “Great miracle happened there”. A great miracle truly happened at that time, and the people of Israel are still commemorating it!

The history of Israel and its people is full of miracles, and what a great miracle it is to be able to stand before the survivors and play with them the Hanukkah dreidel game.

Happy Hanukkah!
