Haifa | Financial Aid for Struggling Families and Individuals in Need | Personal Story

February 20th, 2025 – Helping Hand Coalition team delivering encouragement, love and financial help to Luba from Haifa, a financially struggling elderly pensioner.

She was touched to the point of tears by the visit, care and for the support that she received in the form of gift grocery cards for grocery shopping.

Luba Minkov, is a 77-year-old resident of Haifa, who lives on her own, paying high rent with her tiny government pension which barely covers it. After all expenses, she has to scrape corners to find money for buying food or paying basic expenses.

On top of it, Luba’s daughter is a cancer patient in very poor health condition.

She lives right next to Haifa with her two granddaughters. The situation has become overwhelming for Luba, both emotionally and financially.

Luba explained that her daughter and son-in-law took a bank loan in her name to face the financial challenges that came with the cancer. Even though her son-in-law has since passed away and her daughter is severely ill, Luba continues to pay off the loan.

Her youngest granddaughter is caring for her mother, who has a complex form of cancer. Luba’s daughter is being fed through infusions, requiring frequent diaper changes due to her condition. As a result, diapers are urgently needed.

The family’s only source of income comes from Luba’s oldest granddaughter, who is 35 and works to support the family. Luba herself receives limited social support from the government and some assistance with her rent. However, the financial strain has left her unable to afford basic groceries such as yogurt, fruits, vegetables, and cheese. She has been relying on grains and the cheapest items available.
