(English translation)
A significant event was held for the victims of the Catastrophe in the city of Dimona. Elena Kovaleva led this event. She is the chairperson of this society. Naturally, the first step is to find funding and sponsors.
Optometrists came to us and provided us with glasses. Everyone who wanted it had their vision checked and was immediately provided with glasses. 3 types of glasses: 1. Reading glasses 2. For use in other situations. Sunglasses
Everyone was assigned a specific time. People came to the office for our society and waited in the shade. After all, it took everyone 20-30 minutes to check their vision. And there are 95 of us. Lena did not leave the elderly people during these days; she treated them with warmth and filial attention. She brought chairs out into the courtyard in the shade and offered them a drink of cold water. Thank her very much! How important this is for elderly, not entirely healthy people! Attention and care are much more valuable than free glasses.
AN UNUSUAL EVENT
Our city newspaper, “Voice of Dimona,” reported on it.
Elena Kovaleva is the head of the “Catastrophe Victims” society. She invited everyone who needs glasses to her office at 208 Bar Kokhba Street. Free of charge. Such an event is being held in our city for the first time. Elena made arrangements and invited the Helping Hand Coalition, a mobile eye clinic from the United States, to visit us on June 8. This made many people very happy, as not everyone can travel far. The cost of glasses is not inexpensive.
The guests arrived with the necessary devices, with glasses of different diopters. And by noon and until the evening, at the specified hours, pensioners began to arrive. It is worth noting that everyone was in a good mood. We met people we hadn’t seen in a long time; laughter, smiles, and joyful reunions. The optometrist checked our vision and selected ready-made glasses. He gave us a book, “Shelter” by a Dutch writer, as an accessory and a keepsake. Ninety-five people were served. Everyone expressed great gratitude to the head of the clinic, Vladislav Bruce, and his assistants for their precise work, polite and pleasant treatment, and attention to the elderly.
We also express our gratitude to Elena Kovaleva for taking care of us and for the clear organization of the events.
“Dear editors, dear readers of the newspaper! Recently, I was invited to a veterans’ club to meet with sponsors. They brought glasses to us in Dimona, selected and gave them out free to everyone who needed them. Experienced specialists spent a considerable amount of time, not counting the time, carefully selecting glasses for both distance and reading. Many people wanted to, but we had to wait a long time. But how wonderfully everything was organized! We sat in the shade on chairs that had been prepared for us and talked. At the same time, we met with many acquaintances whom we rarely see, since at our age it is not easy for us to leave the house. And here was a reason to meet and receive the necessary gift.”
The specialists who selected glasses did not speak Russian very well. Two city residents, Misha Kislov and Rena Ivanova, came to our aid and translated everything for us, so that we could understand each other. I want to extend a big thank you to our Lenochka for finding sponsors for us, and most importantly, for surrounding each of us with care and attention. May God give her health and strength to do her essential and helpful work.
Sincerely, Zina Fridman”
