Day 2 Distribution Visits to Netanya, Visit 3

May 27th, 2026 – Nelly Garmash, 87 years old

Nelly lives alone and originally comes from Kharkiv, Ukraine, a city that has suffered great destruction during the current war with Russia. She immigrated to Israel about 30 years ago.

Although she has a nephew and niece who served in the IDF, they now live in Canada and Belgium, which leaves Nelly feeling very much alone. Thankfully, she does have a caregiver who comes during the week to assist her.

During the recent war, Nelly faced another difficult challenge. There is no bomb shelter in her apartment and not even a communal shelter in the building. Whenever the sirens sounded, the only place residents could seek shelter was in the staircase.

Nelly’s old refrigerator had stopped working properly and was falling apart. As the movers brought in the new refrigerator and removed the old one today, the bottom part of the old fridge actually came apart.

Nelly expressed deep gratitude for the help and support she received. She shared how meaningful it is to have a refrigerator that works properly and said this gift will make a great difference in her daily life.

Luke also shared with Nelly about a special donor from the USA, Roger, who felt led by the Lord to help Holocaust survivors immediately, especially during this week, so they would know they are not forgotten and that God loves and remembers them through His people around the world, including supporters in the USA and the team serving on the ground in Israel.

Nelly was deeply touched by this and expressed heartfelt thanks for the kindness and care shown to her.
