Distribution to Olim Hadashim in Jerusalem – Hanukkah Night 4

On December 1st, a distribution to over 100 olim hadashim (new immigrants) took place at the Ulpan Etzion in Jerusalem, one of the largest absorption centers in Israel. Conducting five-month Hebrew learning programs, the ulpan assists 200 new immigrants each course while providing lodging.

Yaakov Hagoel, Chairman of the Executive of the World Zionist and Acting Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel, was present to light the 4th Hanukkah candle and bless the olim hadashim as well as Helping Hand Coalition and its partners for providing support to Israel’s newest citizens.

Mario Lev, President of the Association of Immigrants from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal in Israel, was present as many of the olim hadashim were from South America. This group of new immigrants is particularly special as most of the current course students are immigrants in their 20s who have at least one university degree and are going through a program to expedite their transition into Israeli society to integrate into the workforce in their respected fields. There is a particular shortage of medical doctors in Israel today, and many of these olim hadashim will enter the medical sector once they graduate from the program.

The goods that were distributed by Helping Hand Coalition were new branded sportswear, including shoes and clothing items as well as other new and high-quality shoes and clothing items. Other organizations also contributed to this event with shampoos, toiletries, Hanukkah gifts, and other goodies.

The feedback to Helping Hand Coalition was phenomenal. Many of the olim hadashim mentioned how ecstatic they were to receive such brand new and amazing shoes and clothing items that looked like they’d come straight from the store. One of the staff at the center said, “We have received donations of all kinds before but never brand new shoes and clothing of this quality. This is amazing and really shows appreciation and love towards these olim hadashim who have come to Israel all by themselves.” Some of the new immigrants shared how moved they were by these gifts and how much it helps them and impacts their lives as they get adjusted to life in Israel.

A huge thank you to GAiN Germany for shipping such high-quality goods and to our local partners Joseph Project for handling all the logistics of bringing the precious donation to Israel. Amazing teamwork! This project was coordinated by Noam Ezra.
