Help for a Holocaust Survivor in Kiryat Shmona Near the Lebanon Border

May 18th, 2026 – Claudia, a Holocaust and ghetto survivor, lives in Kiryat Shmona with her husband Morad, who is bedridden. During the recent war with Iran, they went through an extremely difficult time while living near Israel’s northern border without access to a safe room or nearby bomb shelter.

Kiryat Shmona has endured constant attacks from Hizballah over the years, including missile and drone fire targeting the area and its residents.

In addition to that, last week Claudia called Petra, a representative of March of Life in Israel, with a cry for help because her washing machine broke down.

In a joint initiative, Helping Hand Coalition and March of Life acted fast, and in less than a week Claudia received help to buy a new washing machine.

On the day Claudia received the help for her need, she also met Lena, a volunteer with March of Life from Belarus. In a heartfelt talk with each other Lena spoke to Claudia, who is originally from Ukraine, about an ongoing conflict between the two countries and peoples. It was a time of refreshing and reconciliation for both of them.
