An Old Letter

July 30, 2017 – At today’s Shalom House meeting, after the volunteers shared with them about the March of Life Movement and the March of the Nations 2018 in Israel, a survivor suddenly stood up and took a plastic bag out of her purse. Inside was a letter her father wrote to the family in 1945. He was sharing his experiences about how he was fighting the Germans during World War II. This was the last letter the family received from him. Later they found out that her father was killed shortly after writing this letter.

A German volunteers took the opportunity to humbly ask for forgiveness. Another volunteer quoted the words of  March of Life founder, Jobst Bittner, which he spoke at one of the Marches: “We can not change the past, but we can humble ourselves and ask for forgiveness for what happened in the Holocaust”.
