May 9th, 2022 – On May 9th, festive memorial events dedicated to Victory Day were held in Israel.
In Jerusalem, with the participation of the Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov, a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the memorial to the heroic defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad “Candle of Memory” took place; in Netanya – to the Monument of the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany, as well as a festive event organized by Russian-speaking compatriots and citizens of Israel on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Wreath-laying ceremonies were held in Haifa and Nesher with the participation of Consul General of Russia Igor Popov, who also met with the activists of the Association of Concentration Camp and Ghetto Survivors in Kiryat Motzkin. Similar ceremonies were held all over Israel with participation of local municipalities officials, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Jewish veterans who fought against the Nazis.
Processions of the “Immortal Regiment” took place in many cities of Israel, including Netanya, Tel Aviv, Ashdod, Bat Yam, Lod, Haifa.
A particle of the Eternal Flame that arrived in Israel the day before was handed over to veterans of the Great Patriotic War: David Isaevich Kogan (101 years old), guard sergeant of the landing troops of the Red Army, and Veniamin Georgievich Topor (96 years old), private of the Red Army. The veterans were congratulated on the Victory Day with an expressed gratitude for their courage and perseverance.
On May 9, a solemn reception was held at the residence of the Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov in honor of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Russian House in Tel Aviv provided the exhibition “Photographs of the Victorious May 1945”.
All events were held with the support of the Russian House with the participation of its director Denis Parkhomchuk.
