Visiting Survivors in Jerusalem – Joseph, 90

May 31st, 2026 – Joseph and his wife immigrated to Israel in 1990 from Mogilev in Belarus. At that time they were in their fifties. They worked in Israel for 20 years, but at that time it wasn’t mandatory for employers to set aside pension plan for the workers.

They are now in their nineties and live and an old age allowance of NIS 6,800. Joseph had two cousins in Israel, one is still alive at the age of 97, and the second has gone “to the next world”. They visited them in Belarus and spoke about life in Israel, and that is what made Joseph pack their suitcases and immigrate.

Five years ago their building was flooded, and since then their apartment has been in a bad shape.

Joseph has serious health issues – Parkinson’s, hypertension, degenerative changes in the spine and others. The couple was thankful for the visit and attention from Helping Hand Coalition.
